Sam Philbrook
Managing Director at Commonwealth Financial Group

Sam graduated from Norwich University with a Bachelor's Degree in History and a minor Business. While at Norwich, Sam was in the Corps of Cadets and was the Captain of the baseball team his Junior and Senior Year. After Norwich, Sam was commissioned into the United States Army as an Infantry officer. Once his active duty time was complete, Sam transitioned to the Vermont Army National Guard and started a financial services career with Northwestern Mutual before transitioning with his team to Commonwealth Financial Group in 2015. Currently Sam manages a team of 17 financial planners and 4 support staff as well as maintains his own personal financial planning practice focusing on family and business owner succession planning.

Along with his financial planning career, Sam continues to be an active member of the Vermont National Guard. In 2021, Sam deployed to CENTRAL COMMAND (CENTCOM) where his unit (TASK FORCE AVALANCHE) actively participated in and supported operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. During the deployment, Sam worked in the Intelligence Community. Currently, Sam is the Alpha Company Commander for Alpha Company, 3rd Battalion - 172nd Infantry Regiment (Mountain).

Currently, Sam resides on the Southcoast of Massachusetts with his wife Sarah, and their three children Abel, Grayson and Emmy. Outside of CFG, and the military, Sam is on the Norwich University Board of Alumni as well as an active member of Rally2Give. In his free time, Sam enjoys traveling with his family, golfing, running and reading.
