Background

Friends of Jack was formed by in April 2010 in Lake Oswego, Oregon, by a group of committed volunteers. Formation of the group by was inspired by the dedication to physical and emotion recovery of Jack Toland following a significantly life altering cycling accident the day before Thanksgiving 2009.

Effective June 28, 2010, Friends of Jack is now a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity.

Jack Toland is a well-known and respected member of the local cycling/racing community. As a result of his cycling accident Jack suffered severe breaks to his femur and elbow, undergoing multiple surgeries to plate the bones. Jack has since dedicated himself to regaining the function of the left side of his body and the normal day-to-day self-independence many of us take for granted.

Shortly before his accident Jack had lost his job and thus access to medical/health care insurance. In addition to the focus on his own recovery, Jack has become known for his inspiration to others undergoing physical therapy, athletes and non-athletes alike.
